John is a Senior Consultant at Hansuke, having served previously as the Policy and Technical Adviser at HMRC, responsible for developing tax legislation for collective investment schemes and their investors. In that role he worked closely with senior industry representatives, representative bodies and regulatory bodies as well as HM Treasury and Ministers, to maintain and develop tax legislation relating to collective investment schemes and their investors over nearly ten years.
John took the lead on a wide variety of legislative changes related to maintaining and developing UK competitiveness as a centre for asset management and domicile of funds and investment companies. In particular, he led tax work in connection with the introduction of the UK’s new tax transparent funds and the UK Investment Management Strategy both of which have been actively supported by the investment management industry. He also worked on a range of other developments relating to investment funds including on the 2009 offshore funds regime, as well as on developments affecting the taxation of unauthorised unit trusts and investment trust companies, as well as working with Revenue operational colleagues to resolve customer issues.
In a previous life John has been a teacher and examiner of Mathematics, participating in the development of A level courses.
